These habits harm your career

Of course, if you want to climb the career ladder or develop yourself as a specialist, you need the necessary know-how and some essential soft skills. But you may not realize how crucial your habits are when it comes to the course of your career. There are behaviors with which you will never be successful in the long term despite qualifications and the like. What are they?

Rudeness

The first bad habit is obvious: If you don’t know how to behave politely and professionally in a professional environment, you are damaging the image of the employer. So you will either not get the job in the first place – or you will most likely lose it again quickly. In addition, you are unsuitable for contact with customers or business partners as well as a management position.

Unpunctuality

At first glance, the unpunctuality seems less bad. Nevertheless, it leaves a bad and also unprofessional impression. If you are late for the interview, your job opportunities are very likely to be ruined. Nor can the employer tolerate your being late for meetings or other important appointments. After all, punctuality is also a sign of respect. So if you regularly appear late, you are unconsciously sabotaging your career.

Perfectionism

Perfectionism, on the other hand, is more likely to harm you and therefore only indirectly your career. Because this puts you under a lot of pressure, you work unproductively and you only perform (below) average. In addition, you are constantly stressed and threatened that your health will ruin your career.

Negligence

The fourth bad habit is therefore negligence: If you do not take care of your health, you will not perform well in the long run. But your appearance must also be well-groomed, your outfit appropriate to the situation and your work ethic high. So take care of yourself, your health, your words and your actions. On the other hand, if you act carelessly, your career could be over sooner than you might think!

Pessimism

Do you know the so-called self-fulfilling prophecy? If you are pessimistic about your professional goals, you will never achieve them. Instead, employers want optimistic and self-confident employees who can inspire others and who believe in themselves. So look optimistically into your professional future, it will most likely also look positive.

Procrastination

Procrastination – the habit of putting off unloved tasks – is a widespread phenomenon. However, it can become a problem if you work unproductively and get under too much stress, because you do not constantly, but always only do activities “at the last minute”. Time pressure can negatively affect your health as well as your performance by making mistakes or not meeting deadlines. Only when you learn not to postpone tasks, but to work consistently, productively and reliably, will you be on the right (career) path. There are many little habits that you may not even notice, but which have a negative impact on your professional career. But the good news is: With a little practice, you can change all of these behaviors and thus set the course for your career towards success!
